Dora The Explorer, while focusing on fantasy, imagination, and education, invites viewers to be a part of her world. Extending this reach beyond TV episodes, the Nickelodeon Products Team was looking for an interactive way to engage both preschoolers and parents in order to deepen the brand’s connection and storytelling.

With the brand’s core values in mind, HTML5 was used to develop a customizable digital storybook, putting fans into a new adventure with familiar characters like Boots, and of course, Dora herself!

Children can enjoy customizing their own avatar, selecting from an array of hair, skin, and eye colour options, as well as clothing and accessory options to really add personality.

Unique pin codes found on specially marked toy and fashion items unlocked a free storybook download, which could be reread and reimagined with a new custom avatar as many times as the user liked.

With buy-in from a retail partner, the digibook reached thousands of unique downloads and repeat interactions. The measurable unique pin code provided critical success metrics for both partners and Nickelodeon alike.
